Taiwan 6 Days 5 Nights Trip (Day 2)

The day before, I was searching online on where else we should visit in Taichung. 高美湿地 (Gao Mei Shi Di) came out to be one of the search result. It didn’t came out to be the top few results but it looked so beautiful from the photo that I couldn’t say no. Based on reviews, most people recommend to go near the evening to catch the sunset. The problem with Taichung is there’s no train here, only public buses and we weren’t familiar with it. To be safe, we went down to the hotel concierge to book a cab for 4 hours. We were quoted NT$2300 (Approx SGD100) and payment was done upon booking. Yes, it’s freaking expensive! Well, that’s the easiest and most convenient way of getting there.

We had 4 hours to spare before heading off to 高美湿地 (Gao Mei Shi Di). After booking the cab, we went for hotel breakfast. Normal typical hotel breakfast, nothing fantastic. Went back to our hotel room after breakfast to slack. Seriously, we couldn’t find anything to do around the area during day time.

When it’s close to lunch time, we head down hopping to find something good. We walked round the area aimlessly but couldn’t seem to find anything nice for lunch. Finally found something decent and decided to try it out. We went into this cafe called echo which served mostly sandwiches. So he ordered pork and I ordered beef sandwich. I never thought that sandwiches could go wrong. The meat tasted kinda fake. Not recommended.

Taiwan has this super big bottle of Yakult. It’s like a must to drink when we come to Hong Kong. Okay, not like Singapore doesn’t have it, just that the bottle is too small. Just happened to pass a 7-11 store so we went in for a big bottle of Yakult.

It’s was 1 hour before 2pm. There’s not much time left to go other places. Walked around Fengjia Night Market with majority of the stores closed. Probably only certain food stores were opened because Fengjia University is located at the entrance of the night market. While raoming around, we saw students rushing off for classes. Reminded me of my school days.

Time to head off to 高美湿地 (Gao Mei Shi Di) at 2PM. The taxi driver came to pick us up from our hotel. The sky looked a little dark when we hopped on to the cab. The taxi uncle told us that it would be cloudy. He did mentioned that our timing was just right for sunset. The journey from Fengjia to 高美湿地 (Gao Mei Shi Di) was about 45 minutes depending on the traffic. There wasn’t any major traffic jam when we head there. We were asking the uncle if it’s possible to get there by bus. He replied that it’s possible to it’s quite a distance to walk in. It’s advisable to take a cab in.

We arrived at our destination 45 minutes later. The taxi uncle fetched us to the end to have a closer view of the Windmills. That was the first time I saw real windmills. The view was beautiful. Reminder, please wear more layer if you are planning to go because it’s very windy here.

When we were done with snapping photos, he took us back to the main area. He gave us his number to call when we were done. It’s a photo worthy place to go. Not too crowded, suitable for couples. We walked down the pavement towards the sea. As we walked further, the colder it got. Thankfully, we wore enough to keep ourselves warm.

We were supposed to go there for sunset but we couldn’t locate where the sun was. I supposed it had been covered up by the clouds. No sunset but I think it’s worth a visit.

We left the place at about 6PM. Back to the night market for more junk food. I wasn’t feeling well that night due to stomach ache. Even so, I was still eating those fried food. That night, we had grilled squid sprinkled with cheese powder, fried chicken fillet, one whole potato with lots of cheese, tako yaki and egg roll. These were all the stores with long queue. Haha.
