Penang 4 Days 3 Nights (Day 2)

Waking up afresh, hoping Day 2 would be a better day 🙂 I did feel very refresh when the first thing I saw while waking up was the ocean. Got out of the bed and head to the balcony for some fresh air. Feeling relax. That’s what holiday is all about.

Got myself prepared and head down for hotel breakfast! Flamingo by the beach hotel serves typical international breakfast. Fresh toast, beans, bacons, rice, porridge, etc. Nothing fantastic. Furthermore, they could heat up the food a little more and that would taste slightly better. I believe that you can find better food outside. We ordered the room with breakfast for convenience seek.

It’s always good to go for a stroll after each meal. Hence, we went for a walk a long the beach. Water sports (parasailing, banana boat, jet ski, island tour) are available on the beach but I am not too sure if they are safe. I witnessed an accident while enjoying the view from the balcony. Anyway, we went back to our room after strolling because it’s getting warm out there.

We went back to the hotel, sat in the balcony to enjoy the sea view. From the balcony, we had a full view of the water sports carried out and we were watching a couple having fun while parasailing. When they were about to land, the parachute got too close to the tree, brushed through the brunches and the couple fell straight to the ground. From far, its about 1 storey high. I think they were badly injured on their back. The guy had difficulty maneuvering and he was being fetched to the hospital by their own staff. As for the lady, she could hardly move. Hence, they had no choice but to call the ambulance. This incident was reported on their local newspaper. It mentioned that the man was unhurt. Well, that’s not true.. They were trying to cover up.

At 12 PM, we checked out of our room and went to look out for Penang Tanjung Bungah Goreng Pisang (Fried Banana). It was a 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Maybank would be the landmark to find the Goreng Pisang. When you locate Maybank, look out for a white color van and that should be the one. You won’t miss the smell of the Goreng Pisang. We reached there at 12:30PM and they were just about to start operating. Hence, nothing was ready. The aunty told us to come back in 30 minutes time. Since we walked all the way here, we decided to wait at a coffee shop near by.

At 1:00Pm, we went back and checked if it’s ready for order. Yay, It’s ready! But… They don’t have Goreng Pisang. What a pity. That didn’t stop us from trying others. We ordered one of each to try. Nian Gao, Green bean paste, Yam, Sweet Potato. I love their Nian Gao! That’s the best among the 4. For the next time round I visit Penang, I am gonna make sure that I try their Goreng Pisang!

Picked up our baggages from the Hotel and took a cab to Eastern and Oriental Hotel located in Georgetown. We hired the cab from the hotel and that cost us RM 30. The distance between Tanjung Pungah and Georgetown is 8km. By cab, it will take about 15 minutes with smooth traffic.

It was time to check in when we reached Eastern and Oriental Hotel. I got to say the hotel room is gorgeous. It appeared just like the picture posted in Agoda. Though it’s expensive, it’s worth the money. Nice bedroom with ocean facing view. Perfect! Thank to a friend who recommended me this hotel.

First attraction in Georgetown, The Camera Museum. In The Camera Museum, you will see all sorts of cameras exhibited. Along the corridor, there’s picture illustrated to walk the audience through the history of camera. Apart from that, they have small little rooms that shows how the concept of camera actually came about and how photos were being developed in the olden days. If you are planning to go, you might wanna set aside 2 hours.

On the ground level of the museum, there’s a cafe located right at the end. It’s located at the exit of the camera museum. They serve very nice mocha mille crepe. Thickness of the mille crepe is just nice and it’s not too sweet.

Right beside The Camera Musuem, there is a cat cafe “The Purrfect  Cat Cafe”. They sell varieties of cat related accessories. The cafe is located on the second floor. Do check it out if you happen to pass by.

At 05:30 PM, we made our way to Yeng Keng Cafe and Bar located inside Yeng Keng hotel. It was recommended by my boyfriend’s mum who went there few months back. Yeng Keng Cafe and Bar is famous for their Chicken Pie. If you are keen to try, please made a reservation with them and mention that you would like to pre-order their pie. They will start preparing 20 minutes before your arrival. Their chicken pie is huge (12 inch) and it pretty different from the chicken pie that we normally eat in Singapore. It’s soup based and not paste. That one chicken pie is enough for 4 people. Even so, we ordered another plate of hor fun. Their hor fun tasted really good especially with the “wok” smell.

My dad had a sudden craving for Char Koay Teow. That’s not in my itinerary. For situation like this, Google is my best friend. There’s lots of recommended Char Kway Tiao around Georgetown but some of them close pretty early. Kimberly Street Char Koay Teow is one of those that operates till midnight and it’s not too far from where we were.

At Kimberly Street, there’s lots of food ranging from fried oyster cake, hokkien mee, duck rice, chendol, etc. We went their specifically for Char Koay Teow and that’s the only dish we ordered. In my opinion, the Char Koay Teow wasn’t too oily but it’s a bit too salty for me. Maybe the uncle was affected by the heavy rain.

It started pouring after we were done with eating and there’s no way we could walk in such a heavy rain. 1.5 hours later, the rain didn’t seem like it will stop anytime soon. Their drainage system is worst than Singapore. 1.5 hours of heavy rain and the whole area was flooded including the coffee shop. My parents decided to walk bare-footed back to the hotel. It’s dangerous but we had no choice. Before leaving, we packed satays and chicken wing. At the same time, ask for more plastic bags from the stall owner. Soaking my feet in the flood was no fun. Rather, it’s pretty disgusting because the water was damn dirty. It took us about 45 minutes to reach back to our hotel. In fact, it should only take 10 minutes without rain and flood.

Finally we were back in hotel. First thing was to have a good shower. Second thing was to enjoy the chicken wings. That’s my adventurous day 🙂
